South Cambridgeshire Hall wins BCO 2005 Award
12 Oct 2005
South Cambridgeshire Hall, the new South Cambridgeshire District Council headquarter building at Cambourne Business Park claimed the prize for Midlands and East Anglia in the 'Corporate Workplace Building' category at last night's BCO Awards in London.
Designed by architects AukettFitzroyRobinson for Development Securities and local development partner Wrenbridge, the challenging brief called for the provision of a contemporary, vibrant office space that represents value for money for the local authorities' constituents, both in terms of low initial and life-time costs.
The building had to be adaptable enough for the defined future requirements of South Cambridgeshire District Council, providing a pleasant yet civic style befitting a council office, which would be flexible enough to enable future commercial sub-letting should SCDC's requirements change.
The striking building, which is located on a new civic square, has achieved an 'Excellent' BREEAM rating and is highly sustainable in many aspects of its design, with the form of the building inextricably linked to environmental performance.
The Headquarters house new council chambers as well as 51,000 sq ft net office space arranged over three floors.
