Celebrating Walk to Work Week at Cambourne Business Park
29 April 2009
Last week (29 April) Cambourne Business Park celebrated its walking commuters at a breakfast event to mark national Walk to Work Week. Everyone who works at the Park who walked into work on that day could claim a free breakfast in the Marketing Office. “Walking to work is not only carbon neutral, it is a great way to raise your energy levels early in the morning and get some exercise,” comments Lesley Scobell, Green Travel Co-ordinator at Cambourne Business Park. “The Department of Health recommends that we all do 30 minutes of moderate exercise five times a week but most adults don’t manage that. Walking is the perfect activity for health, so if you live locally you can walk to work and increase your fitness level. This will reduce your chances of suffering from heart disease and circulatory problems.” As part of the Park’s Green Travel Plan, Cambourne Business Park is working to encourage more people who live close to the Park to walk in. Walking is healthy, free and reduces unnecessary car journeys. As part of this initiative, the Park has relaunched its programme of lunchtime walks. These 40-minute walks happen every Tuesday starting at 12.30pm. “We are hoping that, over time, more employees on the Park will realise how enjoyable walking can be, how good the paths are locally and then try a walk at lunch, or walking to work instead of jumping in the car,” says Lesley. Walk to Work Week is a national awareness event aimed at encouraging employees to consider walking to work, where possible. To find out more visit www.walkingworks.org.uk/walk-to-work-week-2009
